Wow, I don't even recognize that shot. Is it from the hotel during the rescue scene? I just thought of another favorite set of movie stairs: Suspiria.

Yes, Murray's character falls down the stairs and then asks for some time alone with his son.

I'd wanted one of the spiral stairs on the ship but I have a perverse fondness for pictures of stairs with no one (or only part of someone) on them.... So it's odd that by those criteria both The Third Man and The Hudsucker Proxy have "better" shots of spiral staircases.

Ah, Dario Argento. Suspiria is the only film of his I've seen, and it's been awhile. I've been looking for Deep Red and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage for awhile now and finally found them in town, but at a small independent store with so much great stuff I have trouble renting only four DVDs at a time (it's a three-day rental).

I just watched Argento's "The Bird with the Crystal Plumage" and was about to recommend it, because of a splendid top-viewed stair shot. It is in fact the only Argento I've watched, but it's enough to keep me fascinated with his work for...well, who knows:)

So, if you have a chance to watch it, be prepared for great stair shots - with and without people, women, mostly.

marina, I think I'll get that one next time I go (if it's in). I'd like to see more of Argento's work.

You know, I've seen a bunch of other Argento films, but I'm never able to keep them straight, so I don't remember which ones I liked. They're all worth a look, though. Random fun fact: whenever you see a pair of murdering hands but not the person they belong to, they belong to the director. Creepy guy.
