Ransom (1996)

Ransom (1996)
Ransom, dir: Ron Howard
Mistakes revenge for justice, and fits in rather well with Gibson's persecution complex.
This is the kind of film where we're supposed to accept that whatever the main character does is right simply because that's the main character. So Tom's vengeance is acceptable and Shaker's isn't. A thoughtless and despicable film, the kind that falls apart on examination. And Gibson overacts the hell out of the start and end, though he does well enough in the middle. His idea of subtlety is a big neon sign flashing in all caps.

And wasn't this kind of review exactly what I originally didn't want to do with this space? ^_^
